Our Story

Tin Shed Tavern & Pizza opened its doors on April 18th, 2002. The story behind the name is interesting, Mike Kuelbs (Owner) grew up in Bloomington one of 11 children (8 brothers, two sisters). His father had a business that sold lawn and garden equipment and snow removal equipment, above his shop was a bedroom with 5 boys in it.

The shop was really a barn that was renovated to accommodate the five brothers. Mike always remembered that and when he started his restaurant he wanted to take his childhood memories with him… “The barn resembled a Tin Shed” Mike said in our interview.

“My Grandmother was an O’Brien who grew up in Ireland; the Irish Pub was a community gathering place. We wanted to have the same type of atmosphere here at the Tin Shed Tavern & Pizza where people, young and old could feel comfortable coming here and relaxing, eating and having a good time.”
